Description:
The programme offered is Bachelor of Science (Honours), majoring in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics.

Students can choose their minor from any of the fields listed in the B.A. (Hons), B.Soc.Sc. (Hons) or B.Sc. (Hons) programmes.

Courses are offered as packages of 10 - 26 units/credits; courses are valued at either 2, 3 or 4 units/credits. Each package is made up of a number of academic courses, divided into introductory, major, minor, elective and option courses, and language courses. Normally, students will register for introductory courses in their first level/year of study, to be followed by the rest at the second - fifth level/year of study.

Graduation requirements for the B. Sc. (Hons.) programme are:
1. Science I major 60 credit
2. Science II minor 20 credit
3. Science - introductory 14 credit
4. Service Maths/elective/option 24 credit
5. Bahasa Melayu 2 credit
6. English Language 0 - 8 credit
Total 120 credit.

Entrance qualifications:
1. Candidates must possess SPM/MCE or equivalent qualification with a credit pass in Bahasa Malaysia
2. Holders of HSC/STP or equivalent qualification must have:
- passes at principal level in at least 2 relevant subjects, and a pass in General Paper; or
- a pass at principal level in at least 1 relevant subject and a pass in at least 2 subjects at subsidiary level, and a pass in General paper Holders of STPM must have must have:
- passes at principal level in at least 2 relevant subjects, and a principal pass in General paper; or
- a pass at principal level in at least 1 relevant subject and a pass in at least 2 subjects at subsidiary level, and a principal pass in General Paper
Holders of diplomas from other universities can only be considered for the B.Sc. programme.
3. Other requirements:
- candidates with STPM must be more than 20 years old;
- all applicants are expected to have been confirmed in their employment.

Media and methods employed: Printed text, radio broadcasts, study centres, residential schools, video cassettes.
Printed comprehensive text, videos, cassettes, slides for some courses, regular teleconferencing at regional centres, lab experiments at regional centres, compulsory annual 3-week residential school at Universiti Sains Malaysia, P. Pinang, radio broadcasts (minor).

Administrative information:
Students will accumulate credits when they pass their final exams, which are held in April and June (supplementary). Students must accumulate a total of 120 credits in order to be awarded a degree; they can complete their study in a minimum period of 5 years or a maximum of 12 years. Beginning from 1993/94 intake for the B.A. and B.Soc.Sc. programmes, all credits must be accumulated at a distance, i.e., there is no longer the requirement that students must spend 1 academic year as a full time students on campus.
